Review writers wanted

By Hamish Gill

I’m on the look out for more people to review new photography equipment. I frequently receive emails from brands asking me/the website to write a review, and I am beyond stretched as it is, so I’m looking for people I can work with and offer this kit to.

Of course, this isn’t an open invitation to anyone who might fancy a crack at reviewing. This is mostly aimed at trusted 35mmc contributors who have written reviews or more in depth pieces for the website before. Though I should add, I’d be open to the discussion with anyone who can give me examples of their writing.

The products I am asked to review range from cameras to lenses (lots of lenses), camera bags to straps, filters, tripods, you name it. All the kit I am talking about is new and is loaned by the manufacturer and/or local distributor.

I’d this sounds interesting, please get in touch so we can chat more.

I started taking photos at the age of 9. Since then I've taken photos for a hobby, sold cameras for a living, and for a little more than decade I've been a professional photographer and, of course, weekly contributor to 35mmc.

I'm in the US so likely excluded due to cartage/shipping but if not, please consider me!

I'm likewise American, and have only written 2 reviews on 35mmc so far, but if you run out of other candidates I'm game.

I'm interested to hear more. I'm a professional product photographer 40 hours a week but looking to get out of marketing and do other things. I've written a few pieces for 35mmc but also have a degree in journalism and a reasonably in-depth knowledge of 35mm photography.

Hi Hamish,

Doing reviews is something I've done. You know my writing style. I'm in the US, so shipping may be a non-starter.
Question: Do we keep the gear, or must we repack it and ship it back?
About lenses: I have Nikon (both D series and F mount film) and Sony (A6000 series) bodies.
About film, chemistry, and paper: I have a darkroom.

Regarding reviewing: Is this UK based, or open to other locations? (US in my case)

I mistakenly posted this as a reply to another commentor. Sorry. I'm American, and have only written 2 reviews on 35mmc so far, but if you run out of other candidates I'm game.

Hamish I would be glad to participate. I have owned, own and have experimented with many camera systems and countless lenses and write well. I have gone through countless camera straps, camera bags, tripods, slr’s, rangefinders, 4x5, medium format film and digital, member of Film Shooters Collective. Oh, the tales I could tell about it all! I have done minimal reviews on my blog. Best lenses I have used. Entire Pentax Takumar line in M42; 645 and 6/7, Leica 35 Summicron and Summilux, Nikon 135mmDC, Zeiss 35 F 1.4. Favorite camera: Rollie 2.8F. I am not a techie. For me it is all about character and quality. Louis.

Hi Hamish

Not sure about my abilities and work schedules can make writing difficult, but I would like to be considered for some. I am located in Isle Of Man, so there might be a small increase in postage, equivalent to Highlands and Islands.

Best regards Paul

Hi Hamish,
I am from australia,I have recently retired as a Medical consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine after 54years of service.I tend to praise OLYMPUS cameras having owned 2x pen fts ,XA,OM1,OM4Ti,and then a miju and now 3 Bodies of the digital versins OMD-EM5X2 and most recentlyOMD-EM5 mark3.All with lenses for wedding photography.I own a f1.2 lens and a 1.8 lens for the pen FTs,with adapters for slide copying, microscope photography,I was also developing in an OCD Fashion my B&W FILMS,so I have extensive practical experience and would like to review olympus cameras especially the penFTs.
I also own a Minolta Autocord.a and a sekonic light meter.I am in the process of adapting a SLA 6V battery to power my old sunpak flash. How do you wish to have examples of my work as scanned copies of prints or as scanned negs?,I donot have many wedding photos as it was my custom to give the negs to the couple.

I am very new to the website, and also located in the US, so I understand I am likely not the most ideal candidate. I would always be open to trying any variety of different things though as I've been loving writing for the website so far! If at all possible let me know, thank you!
