If you are based in the UK, get ready for the analogue photography social event of the summer! Analogue Wonderland and Kodak are hosting ‘The Big Film Photowalk’ on June 29, 2024, from 12 – 3pm in multiple locations across the UK. With over 40 photowalks planned and more coming, there is sure to be one within reach for many film-loving photographers.
35mmc is even hosting one of the photowalks in Worcester! Attend one of the photowalks and receive a roll of 35mm colour film from Kodak and free development of that roll from Analogue Wonderland’s Wonderlab. Your photos will also be automatically entered into a competition (with prizes) judged by Kodak and AW (‘Analogue Wonderland’).
“Kodak Alaris is excited to be partnering with Analogue Wonderland supporting ‘The Big Film Photowalk’. The Photowalks will provide both new and experienced photographers with an ideal opportunity to enjoy shooting film in special locations with other individuals from the like-minded film community. Happy Shooting!” – Kodak Representative
The photowalks will be led by a local from the area who also happens to be either AW staff, an Ambassador, or a member of a partner analogue organisation or community. Groups involved include (but are not limited to): the Royal Photographic Society, Sunny 16 Podcast, LondonCameraProject, Little Vintage Photography, Solarcan, 35mmc, Shrewsbury Film Photography Club, Film Production Academy, Stills Gallery, LondonAltPhoto, Leicester Lo-Fi Darkroom, Folk House Darkroom, 6 Towns Darkroom Club, Lux Darkroom, Dark Art Sessions, 6 Towns Darkroom Club, CameraGoCamera, Hazlehurst Studios, and Intrepid Cameras.
Keeping a bit of mystery in the event, there is a third partner who is involved but they are currently under a strict embargo until mid-June. Stay tuned!
More events are expected to be planned for dates around June 29th by other analogue industry businesses that better fit with their schedule so be on the lookout for announcements from your local labs and stores!
Here is the list of photowalks currently planned:
Analogue Wonderland says the event was inspired by Record Store Day, a global event to support independent record stores. It aims to bring together the analogue photography community including labs, darkrooms, photographers, retailers, galleries, and workshop hosts around the UK.
“Analogue Wonderland was created with the idea that film photography should be fun and accessible for everyone,” says Paul McKay, co-founder of Analogue Wonderland. “And we believe that the analogue experience brings a joy to photography that is impossible to replicate with a digital device. Organising local photowalks is a staple tool of the film community and a fantastic way for new hobbyists to learn and be inspired by folks who have been using the medium for a while. By coordinating at a national level our hope is that we can amplify the impact so that anyone with an interest in film photography is driving distance from a meet-up!”
Mark your calendars now and don’t miss the sign-ups if you love film photography and socialising with fellow analogue enthusiasts!
Analogue Wonderland has invited anyone that doesn’t see an event near them currently to get in touch if they would like to host one, either a photowalk, workshop, photoshoot, or something else that might fit with the theme.
The company started in 2018 by mother and son duo, Mary and Paul McKay, has a long list of successful events and photowalks they have hosted to bring the community together including the brilliant She Hearts Film initiative. Coming from someone who has attended a few of these, my experience has always been one of a lovely and fun atmosphere to get to know other folks that share a love of film!
