5 Frames With A Le Clic Fun Shooter Panoramic Conversion

By TobyVPhoto

I often peruse my local market for analogue cameras. I don’t always have the luck that others claim to enjoy, but when I spotted this basic 1990’s model I chucked the whole £1.00 asking price down and took it home.

Point and Shoot was never so basic. To make it a bit more interesting I stuck some electrical tape across the back of the interior to mask off the film and only expose the middle-ish third of the frame. I have usually considered the 35mm compact panoramic camera a bit of a waste of film. Why discard that two thirds of emulsion? It’s a waste. But on this occasion I decided to give it a try. I distressed the edges of the tape so they didn’t give a straight line and stuck them down. Then I loaded a roll of Foma Pan 400 and went for a walk.

These images are culled from the first two rolls I shot in this conversion – both Foma Pan 400 – and are lo-fi – even disposable – but at the same time I actually enjoyed the process to get them.

I have not shot a third roll though…

Trying to think of how I can make a comment using the fact that you wasted 2/3rds of the 2 rolls you shot against the fact that you had three rolls to start and haven't wasted any of the third roll yet.

An early technique for cropping in camera... :-)

As I said in the post: “I have usually considered the 35mm compact panoramic camera a bit of a waste of film. Why discard that two thirds of emulsion? It’s a waste. But on this occasion I decided to give it a try.” I’m an experimental photographer. Two rolls were enough enough for me to complete the user experience with this experiment. I doubt I’ll shoot this camera again tbh, not really my cup of tea. Maybe I’ll try to sell it for £1.50??

Well if Lomography can make the Sprocket Rocket why not the Jagged Rocket? It does add some atmosphere.

Cheers, it was a fun thing to try, but ultimately a dead for for me. The LeClic is lying in a box of cameras and I’m not sure I’ll use it again. Between this and sprocket holes I’ll choose sprockets every time.
