Alfie Cameras Update: Kickstarter Campaign Goes Live at The Photography Show

By Molly Kate

A very exciting update for Alfie Cameras fans, the Kickstarter campaign for the Tych half-frame camera is launching at the Photography Show today!

If this is the first time you’ve heard of Alfie Cameras, read the previous article published here on 35MMC for an in-depth background. In short, Alfie Cameras is a fresh camera company created by Dave Faulkner who has been working tirelessly to create a brand-new film camera. The camera is half-frame which means it allows photographers to shoot 72 frames on a 36 exposure roll of 35mm film. It features multiple fun lenses, a near silent shutter, auto and manual modes, and a rechargeable USB battery. Dave has developed a beta prototype and has created a tester program for those wishing to take part in trialing the camera and providing feedback.

The Kickstarter is looking for backers to support the TYCH camera’s refinement as well as the purchasing of components and fixtures to enable a higher volume production for final release into the market. There are tiered rewards which include an option to receive first shipment of the Tych or the Tych+ (an advance featured version of the Tych). Backers will also be given the opportunity to select add-ons such as discounts on film development and starter film packs.

Alfie Cameras says in their press release, ‘A selection of built-in lenses allows for endless creativity, and you can even take things further by trying multiple exposures, diptychs and panoramas.’

Dave, who is speaking at the Photography Show said, ‘The camera is performing well, and we are getting great feedback from our testers. The next step is to move to volume production, being able to make many units with a high level of quality.’

Within the press release from Alfie Cameras, we also hear from Paul McKay of Analogue Wonderland, who said, ‘I’m thrilled that Analogue Wonderland can help support the launch and I cannot wait to get an Alfie camera myself. I’m always in awe at the creativity of the analogue community – the ability of certain people to come up with brilliant ideas and then bring them to life, solving all the mechanical and logistical problems as they go. The Alfie TYCH is absolutely one of those brilliant ideas, a wonderful feat from Dave, a really exciting product and hopefully the start of a new global brand!’

Head over to Kickstarter now to pledge your support and bring an exciting new film camera to the community.

First off it is pronounced 'diptick'! not 'diptitch'...

I love the idea, but after getting burnt by donating a lot to the Reflex 35mm SLR kickstarter, I'll wait for production models.

In the mean time the new Kodak Ektar H35 can make some really nice dipTICKS in sunny weather!
