A road trip through Montenegro is a must. In June I was lucky enough to spend 5 days with my partner enjoying some of the Montenegro coastline equipped with my Canon AE-1.
All my photos were taken with my Canon AE-1 35mm SLR Film Manual Camera with a Canon 50mm F/1.8 FD Lens. The film used was a Kodak Gold 200 and the Shutter Speed mostly set at 1/125. I’m relatively new to the world of film photography so still a lot I was getting to grips with.
Montenegro means “Black Mountain” named because of the dense forest which grows on the mountains giving it a dark appearance when viewed from afar. This picture was taken from above the Old Town of Kotor after climbing up the city walls.
Montenegro is a place for cat lovers with them holding a special “Good Luck” status in the country.
Some damage to the final few photos on the film roll incurred after opening the back casing without rewinding the film. A rookie error.
This photo was taken in Perast. This small town on the bay of Kotor is beautiful with elegant baroque architecture arising following Venetian occupation during the 18th Century.
This is St. Archangel Michael Church in the Old Town of Herceg Novi. The largest religion in Montenegro is Eastern Orthodox Christianity of which the majority of followers belong to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Herceg Novi has one of a number of mesmerising Old Towns you can find in Montenegro which really do transport you back to a different time.
Sveti Stefan is a stunning town connected to the mainland by a narrow piece of land with beaches either side and calm blue waters to swim in.
Driving through Montenegro is an experience I highly recommend. The former Yugoslavian country has a blend of rich history and rustic landscape which delivered a memorable holiday. This was made all the better by taking my 35mm Film Camera and being able to relive it all over again once the film was developed.
Thank you for taking the time to read my article! Hope you enjoyed it!
