New Website Update (the adverts are back…)

By Hamish Gill

I can very much seeing the light at the end of the website update tunnel now. Almost everything has been fixed, with only a final few tweaks now underway. You can see a list of the tweaks that remain here in case you are interested, and if you do spot anything else, please feel free to comment on either this or that post and I will pass on the issue to the devs.

One thing to have in mind if you are an email subscriber – I have a feeling the blank page issue when opening the site from emails might persist. If it does, this points to it being an issue with an external service provider, likely either jetpack (which sends the emails) or ezoic (who serve the adverts). Either way, I will now be able to work on this issue, but please remember, if it happens, just go to the website directly in the browser, or click the “comment” button in the email then scroll up.

The same applies to those of you who sometimes see ads despite being either a contributor or a paying subscriber. If this happens, please just refresh the page or login again. This is another issue I hope to fix in due course.

All in all – despite some of the ongoing bugs – it seems it has been worth the hard work! The website is so much faster already, and that’s without the final speed tweaks that are still to be made. It’s also a lot faster and a lot more streamlined for contributors using the backend of the website too. Again, if you login and see anything odd, let me know.

Finally, ads. They’re back (sorry)! They are going to look a little odd for a few days whilst the configuration process happens, but after that they shouldn’t be too intrusive. If they appear to be doing anything odd, then please feel free to let me know. And don’t forget you can get rid of them for good by contributing content or subscribing.

Thank you for your collective patience, and all the help with fixing bugs. Keep he comments and emails coming – it’s really helpful having so many eyes spotting things! It should be pain sailing soon!
